Try out 120FPS videos on your Valve Index headset
There are plenty of exciting VR porn videos for you to try on the recently-released Valve Index VR headset. We recently acquired one and it has immediately become our favourite headset, along with the Oculus Quest, taking over from the Vive Pro we preferred previously.
120FPS videos are a great match for the 144Hz Index display (it also has a 120Hz mode). You get a greatly-improved movement perception with the higher frame rate - for a certain amount of movement you’re given more frames in a given time to represent it. With current-gen hardware decoders (Nvidia 10xx/20xx and RX5700) we see the maximum possible resolution for 120FPS files at 5792x2896. This means 2896x2896 180º video is projected onscreen for each eye 1,440 × 1,600 via 125º FOV resulting in 2011px projected onto each side of the screen.
Be sure to try out SLR app on Index. While it works fine at the moment, next week we will be releasing a version specifically designed for the Index, with support for native controllers.
Please let us know your thoughts about the following clips on the Valve Index:
At the moment, the 120FPS files provided above are not available on the site so we are looking for community feedback to finalise the specs before we start adding them. You will see a 120FPS filter in the SLR app and will have the option to switch to 120FPS by default for each encoded video. It takes around 10 days to convert one 60FPS video into 90FPS, and twice as long for 120FPS. We use server FFMPEG for that, running around two dozen of these processes in parallel. We are engineering a dedicated cluster to speed up that encoding time by 10 times.
There are a bunch of 90FPS videos already we created for Rift and Vive that will also work great on your Index.
