We spoke to our top PMV creator, Mutiny, about his work with PMVs:
When did you start making PMVs and why?
I've been a fan of 2D PMVs for ages, but I got my start with VR PMVs a few years ago when I began cutting highlight reels for my own enjoyment. What started as editing practice began to take on a bit of craft and style, and I could tell I was getting better at it. Out of curiosity, I published a few of these little experiments on a tube site and quickly racked up over a million-and-a-half views. That's when I realized there truly is an audience for this and I should keep at it. Since launching on SLR, the response has been overwhelming. It feels like inventing a new art form, and that's thrilling.
I actually have a background in film and in the stage/live theatre and it seems to me that VR is the perfect intersection of both of those. It's fun to think about editing for more than just rhythm; in VR you have to consider composition, depth, color, movement, staging, position, etc. It's challenging but when it works it's glorious.
Why should people experience them?
The immersion of long-form VR porn is incredible, and when a performer captures that intimate emotional connection in real-time, it's truly like being there. But PMVs are a different, heightened kind of immersion. It's like stepping into a music video, being led through a series of moments that pulls you toward a thrilling climax. My goal in creating these is to take all the passion and excitement of a full round of sex and guide you through the highlights, capturing the teases, the little moments, the BIG moments, all in a way you've never experienced before.
What is your favorite PMV moment so far?
This is a TOUGH question. I'll give you two. There's a quick moment in NEON GIRLS (coming soon to SLR) where two Stellas are superimposed and we see her face with two different expressions simultaneously. It's trippy and weird and, in my opinion, deeply hot. I also love the part in TEAMWORK where Coco pops up and the color in the scene explodes. That's when the whole thing really takes off!
